The classic first dance. Three counts, long flowing lines, and the style most wedding couples choose.
28–30 bars per minute (84–90 BPM)

Waltz is counted in three: one, two, three. It is smooth, elegant and built on rise and fall, where the dancers lower into the first step and rise through the second and third. If your first dance song is in three, waltz is the natural choice, and it is the style most wedding couples in our studio end up dancing.
Waltz is taught in private lessons at our Addison studio. We start with posture and the closed hold, because in waltz the frame does most of the leading. Then we build the box step and turning figures.
Most wedding couples with a song in three choose waltz. We build a simple routine that fits the length of your song, usually two to three minutes. See our wedding dance lessons for how the process works and how many lessons to plan for.
A clean, simple wedding waltz usually takes four to six lessons. Social waltz takes about the same.
Weddings and receptions, galas, social dance nights, cruises and family celebrations. Every style we teach is chosen because you will actually hear the music and have a chance to dance it.
Posture and frame, timing with the music, lead and follow, and a short sequence you can repeat with confidence. Lessons are built around your goals, your schedule and your level.
